Anaerobic Digestion

An Anaerobic Digestion system can efficiently convert food waste, slurry and energy crops into heat and electricity.

The process replicates the inner workings of a cow’s stomach, producing a methane rich gas known as biogas, which is then burned in a combined heat and power generator to produce heat and electricity.

A fertiliser known as digestate is also produced, which can be spread on to arable land.

One of the great advantages of AD is the consistent supply of energy it produces – a key component to balancing the UK’s energy portfolio.
