  • First full year of Balquhindachy wind turbine

Greenspan Electric’s wind turbine at Hill of Balquhindachy has been operational for a year.  The Vestas 850 kW turbine generated over 2,500 MWh of green electricity over the twelve months, all of which was bought by Marks and Spencer plc to offset the power used in their Eco-store in Pollok.  Over the course of the year, the turbine has offset over 2,000 tonnes of CO2 that would have been emitted by a conventional power station generating the same amount of electricity.

The high output of the turbine represents a very respectable load factor of over 35% of the turbine’s theoretical maximum output, making it among the most productive wind turbines in the UK.  Greenspan Electric is expecting a similar output from two identical turbines which will be commissioned at the farm later this year.  Marks and Spencer will also purchase the renewable energy from these turbines in order to work towards their Plan A target of utilising 100% renewable electricity in their stores
